What’s your why?

What’s your why?

The Summer is taking it’s time making an appearance in Edinburgh this year but Sunday afternoon was a lovely one.  My other half and I popped along to Inverleith and had a relaxing stroll around the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was lush, lots of greenery and lots of calm, peaceful spaces. It’s a place to properly switch off.  It was when I was taking a few photos that I noticed how many benches had been placed around the grounds in memory of loved ones and it got me thinking about my mum.  We lost Mum 23 years ago when she was just 56 years old. I’m not far off that myself now. She loved her garden, Livingston daisies were her absolute favourites.  Mum worked every day until she was too ill to manage but she still had so many places to visit, gardens to enjoy, things to do.

My mum is my why.  She is why I gave up a well paid teaching post and took time for me. She is why I’m now creating sweary cookies, although she’d be raging at the choice of language and I’d definitely be getting told off! She’d be proud though. I knew that if I could, I wouldn’t be teaching until my retiral age (it’s 68 for Scottish teachers!). I knew I wanted to have the choice to spend more time with family, to go for lunch with friends anytime we choose, be able to go on holidays and have some adventures. Delicious Profanities is a step on the road towards a life of my choosing and my why is always prominent in my thoughts.

Have a lovely day friends, and keep focused on whatever your why may be.
