As I write this, it’s the first week in June 2024. This time last year I had a countdown on my phone and was counting down the days until the school summer holidays. I was a primary teacher in a small school and was looking forward to a wee breather.
This was going to be a slightly longer breather though as I’d handed in my resignation and was leaving teaching for good after 21 years. ‘FFS! You’re doing what?’ A reaction heard many times over when I shared my news with family and friends.
So, I left! I had no plan, no job to go to, I just wanted to catch my breath for a wee while. I had lots of time for self care and to just be. It was lush!
My very lovely school family bought me a leaving gift of a voucher for a pottery session and since I’ve always considered myself creative I thought this’ll be my thing! Nope! Friggin’ hopeless! Let’s just say that the 3 flower pots I made look fabulous as paper clip holders!
However, my creative juices were flowing and I signed up for a few other taster craft workshops. I tried needle felting and made a cute wee pin cushion in a teacup, a macrame plant pot holder and I taught myself to crochet. (I’m actually not too bad at this!). Then I did a cookie decorating class in December 2023. I bloody loved it! It was so much fun!
Since then I’ve been on a journey where my learning curve has been steeper than Ben Nevis! I have learned how to bake delicious sugar cookies (I tried at least 6 different recipes), I’ve developed my icing skills, I’ve written upteen copy for my website, I’ve discovered how much packaging actually costs (ooft!), I’m doing an online business course, I’m learning how to use instagram (I know, a bit late to the party but hey ho!) and I’ve been dishing out cookies left, right and centre to family and friends looking for feedback on taste, look, thickness and packaging!
So, like the end of an Oscar winners speech, I’ve got a few TQ’s to make. Thanks to all my family especially my husband who has endured my sense of humour for 27 years now! My children who have been stuffing their wee faces since January! (Sorry Mrs Dentist!) A massive high bloody five to all my taste testers, that’s my lovely old school pals who were sitting ducks, my super encouraging sister and her family and my fabulous pals from Peterhead to Dumfries who all tasted, and tested my website. It takes a bloody village! The ringleader of my particular village though is Leonardo, my website guy, 3D cookie cutter printer guy, photographer guy and all round techy star! Thanks, man!
So as I bring this first wee blog post to an end, it’s the first week of June 2024 and I have a countdown on my phone. This time it’s counting down the days to me launching my Delicious Profanities website and business. MONDAY 10 JUNE 2024! I’m peeing my breeks!!
